Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal are in the
market to sign a new defender in the summer transfer window after news of Per
Mertesacker’s injury setback.
The German defender has been ruled out of action for a
number of months after undergoing knee surgery following the injury picked up
during Arsenal’s pre-season friendly clash with Lens last week.
Arsenal have already signed one defender in the form of
20-year-old centre-half Rob Holding this summer.
However, the Arsenal boss has revealed that the north
London side are likely to reenter the market for another defender following
Mertesacker’s injury.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of Arsenal’s clash
with an MLS All-Stars side, Wenger said: “We have to look for an option to get
a bit more experience.
