Xhaka is set to don an Arsenal shirt for the first
time in Friday morning’s MLS All-Star Game, Arsene Wenger has
confirmed.
The Swiss midfielder, Arsenal’s third-most expensive
signing at £35million, arrived at London Colney for his first day of training
at his new club on Thursday and was one of only four players to have featured
at Euro 2016 that were also included in the tour squad for the Gunners’ trip to
the USA.
Xhaka played every minute for Switzerland at Euro 2016,
where his missed penalty saw Vladimir Petkovic’s side eliminated by Poland at
the round of 16. As such Wenger has vowed to ease the burden on his new signing
but does expect him to feature.
“He will play a part in the game,” he told a news
conference. “He is a bit short fitness-wise, because he just came back last
week.”
