Chamberlain scores beauty for Arsenal but Akpom shows Wenger MUST sign a striker

Chuba Akpom
Arsenal got their pre-season campaign off to a slow start with an unconvincing 1-1 draw against Ligue 2 side Lens.

The Gunners came from behind to nick a draw in France, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain providing the only real moment of quality with his second half strike.

but Chuba Akpom showed Arsenal absolutely must sign a new striker before the transfer window closes after an anonymous display up front.

With Olivier Giroud returning late after reaching the Euro 2016 final with France and with Danny Welbeck out injured, it’s possible that Arsenal will be relying on Akpom to start their first Premier League game against Liverpool.

However, any faint hopes Gunners supporters may have had that the 20-year-old could cause a surprise and become the next Marcus Rashford look to have been dashed here as he looked well out of his depth.

Arsenal continue their pre-season with a tour of the US next, taking on an MLS All-Stars side and Chivas Guadalajara.
