Hector
Bellerin is in discussions with Arsenal over a new contract, according to
reports in Spain.
The
21-year-old defender had a breakthrough season in 2014/15 and has since gone on
to make 73 appearances for the Gunners, becoming a key player for the north
London outfit in the process.
Sport suggest that Richard Law, a member of Ivan
Gazidis’ executive team at the Emirates, has been appointed the job
of securing a new deal for the Catalan right-back.
Bellerin’s
current contract at Arsenal expires in 2019 and the club are keen to extend
this by two years.
It’s understood Barcelona, where Bellerin came through the ranks as a teen, have been monitoring the progress of Bellerin in recent weeks.
However, the
youngster confirmed earlier this month that his intention was to remain at
Arsenal for many years.
‘I am very
happy at Arsenal,’ he said.
‘I renewed
last year and have many years left. I am very happy. In football you can always
spend a lot, but I’m in the Arsenal, giving everything for the club.
‘I do not
think about going to anywhere else.’
