Nigel Winterburn has warned Arsenal that they must turn
around their stuttering form or risk being dumped out of the Premier League
title race.
The Gunners were held to a frustrating goalless draw bySouthampton at
Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night as they failed to score for the third
straight Premier
League game.
Arsenal had
been touted by many to be genuine contenders for the top-flight title this
season as they look to lift the trophy for the first time since 2004.
However, Arsenal have only won five of their last 10
Premier League games and dropped down to fourth place after Tuesday’s draw.
And former Gunners defender Winterburn admits that the
north London side will need to reverse their ailing fortunes quickly as they
prepare for their trip to Bournemouth on Sunday lunchtime.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday
morning, Winterburn said: “Arsenal’s problem at the moment is that they’ve hit
poor form at the wrong time.
“From their last eight games, they’re sitting midway down
the league [on current form] and they need to reverse that.
“They are still in the title race, simply by where they
are [in the table] but they’re making it very difficult for themselves.”
Arsenal are currently level on points with third-placed Tottenham.
