Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Paul
Merson has given his opinion over Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League tie
with champions Leicester City.
Merson, speaking
in his weekly prediction column for Sky Sports argues that
his old side need to kick off strongly now to avoid fighting an uphill battle
later on in the season.
“Arsenal have to win this match. People will say there
are still 36 games left after this, but you can’t afford to fall six points behind.
Come the end of the season, playing catch-up takes its toll.”
However, due to the lacklustre showing of Arsenal’s
defenders against Liverpool, Merson does not predict that his former side will
win against the champions and believes that the game will end as a 2-2 draw.
“This is a big football match and I think there will be
goals. Last season, Wes Morgan and Robert Huth blocked every shot they jumped
in front of, and I don’t think that will happen again.
“Arsenal can’t defend, we know that, so I’m going for a
score draw.”
