Carlo Ancelotti believes that Arsenal are finally closing the gap on Barcelona due to tactical changes implemented
by Arsene Wenger, but the incoming Bayern Munich boss notes that the Catalans
are still ‘really strong’.
The Gunners face the reigning European champions in the
Last 16 of the Champions League next week and Arsene Wenger will want to
finally pick up a victory against Barcelona.
Having previously been known as unflinching in his
dedication to possession football, Wenger has taken more practical approach
over the last season and a half, most notably in the two consecutive league
wins Arsenal have recorded over Manchester City.
Barcelona, though, have gotten one over on Arsenal every time they have played in recent years and Wenger just cannot find a way to knock them out, though Ancelotti believes he is getting closer.
“Arsene Wenger has changed their style of play, they’re
playing more on the counterattack, using the skills of their strikers – Mesut
Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez,” Ancelotti told Goal.
“Maybe they’ve closed the gap but Barcelona are really
strong.”
