Now the details of Mesut Ozil’s sensational deadline day
transfer to Arsenal in September of 2013 have been leaked.
At the time it was reported that The Gunners had paid
Real Madrid £42.5million for the German passmaster.
It’s now known actual amount was €44m, plus
six €1m instalments depending on Arsenal’s domestic and European
performances.
That works out closer to £38m. Still The Gunners’ record
signing by some way of course.
The interesting clauses concern Ozil’s next move,
although most Arsenal fans will be hoping that’s not for a few years yet, if at
all.
Real Madrid have the first refusal on any move back to La
Liga.
That means should Barcelona, Atletico or any other
Spanish team have a bid accepted, then Madrid have 48 hours to match it and
take priority.
How that would work during their impending transfer ban
we’re not quite sure.
Additionally, if Ozil were to move on to any other club
for a fee of €50m or more, Madrid would receive 33% of the wedge.
Probably best to just keep hold of him.
