Arsene Wenger has revealed that Francis Coquelin’s knee
injury is not as serious as first feared – but the midfielder will miss
Arsenal’s trip to Burnley on Sunday.
Coquelin injured his knee in the first half of Arsenal’s
3-0 win over Chelsea at The Emirates last weekend and it had been feared that
the Frenchman could be sidelined for some time.
However, Arsenal boss Wenger revealed on Friday that
Coquelin’s problem is not as serious as it looked.
The Arsenal manager also delivered updates on striker
Olivier Giroud and midfielder Aaron Ramsey, with both players ruled out of
Sunday’s game.
Speaking at his news conference at Arsenal’s training
ground on Friday morning, Wenger said: “Giroud will be out.
“I think Coquelin is looking much better than we
expected, he had a test today but I still think he will be short for Sunday.
“Because his ligament was not damaged as we thought. He
is keen to start again but we have to be cautious.
“We have plenty of games coming up but for us now we work
in cycles of three, week by week we play three games, so we have done Chelsea,
Basel and it’s now to show that we can finish well the week.
“Aaron Ramsey is out of the Wales squad. He should be
available after the international break.”
