Report : Arsenal to offer star FIVE YEAR deal to fend off interest from CL giants

Arsenal will offer Hector Bellerin a new five-year contract in an attempt to fend off interest from the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona, according to reports.

Bellerin has made 80 appearances for the Gunners since making his debut for the north London outfit back in 2013 but the 21-year-old has consistently been linked with a move away from the Emirates.

The Daily Mirror suggest Arsene Wenger is set to put a five-year deal on the table for the right-back to try to ensure his future remains in north London.

Premier League rivals Man City have made contact over the availability of Bellerin but Arsenal have made it clear that they are determined to hold onto the highly-rated defender.

La Liga giants Barcerlona, where Bellerin came through the ranks as a youngster, have also made no secret of their interest in bringing the Spaniard back to the Nou Camp.

‘We’ve already seen him as a Cule! He’s a great player, there’s no doubt about that,’ Barca vice president Jordi Mestre recently told Sport.

Paul Merson states prediction for Burnley v Arsenal clash

Paul Merson is backing Arsenal to continue their winning Premier League run and beat Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners are unbeaten in five Premier League games since a 4-3 loss to top-four rivals Liverpool in their opening fixture of the 2016-17 season.

Arsenal have beaten Watford, Southampton, Hull City and Chelsea in their last four Premier League outings to hoist Arsene Wenger’s side up to third place.

The Gunners polished off an impressive spell with a 2-0 win against Swiss outfit Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes the north London side should ease to a comfortable victory over Sean Dyche’s side on Sunday afternoon.

“It should be 4-0. Burnley shouldn’t be able to live with Arsenal if they pass the ball around like they have in the last few games,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“But that won’t happen. Burnley will set up 4-5-1 and make it very difficult. If Arsenal get the first goal it sets them up but we have seen it all before, which is why I wouldn’t be shocked if Burnley won.”

Arsene Wenger gives two reasons for Premier League title drought - and why Arsenal can now win it

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given his reasons for the club’s long Premier League title drought in the second half of his reign.

The Gunners boss is celebrating 20 years in charge of the side this week, and feels there is renewed hope for him to lift the Premier League trophy again.

Speaking to his former star striker Thierry Henry on Sky Sports, Wenger offered two main reasons that Arsenal ended up falling behind their rivals in recent times.

‘The second one, big investors came in at the same time, like Chelsea, like Man City after, who were hugely ambitious and we were not any more the club who could compete with them on the financial front.’

However, the French tactician now feels Arsenal have a chance to capitalise on the fact that the league has become more even.
‘Today it’s different,’ he added. ‘There are so many investors that nearly everybody is on an equal level again.’

Cazorla and Xhaka to start : Strong Predicted Arsenal Line Up To Face Burnley on Sunday

Can Arsenal maintain their newly-found excellent form? The north London giants are known for choking and taking their feet off the pedal when it matters most. Particularly, how they fail to pick all available points against the smaller teams has always been their undoing in recent league campaigns.

They travel to Turf Moor on Sunday to face last season’s Championship champions, and having won all of their last 4 league games, getting the better of Sean Dyche’s men shouldn’t be herculean a task.

The quality and rich depth in squad the team now boasts of has made Wenger’s rotation policies work out well thus far, and putting that at the back of the mind, here is how the Gunners might lineup against Burnley on Sunday.

The Frenchman is celebrating 20 years in north London this week but is out of contract at the end of the season.

The 66-year-old has won nine trophies during his time with the club and the club’s hierarchy are keen to see him stay on beyond 2017.

Wenger, though, will wait upon making a decision on his future but insists he could stay at the Emirates for years to come.

‘I rule nothing out because I want to work. And I want to do well,’ said Wenger, when asked if there could be a 25th anniversary.

‘But I accept as well that it can finish tomorrow. It’s a love story and a love story you expect always to last forever. But it can stop any day.’

Arsene Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Burnley clash

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Francis Coquelin’s knee injury is not as serious as first feared – but the midfielder will miss Arsenal’s trip to Burnley on Sunday.

The Arsenal manager also delivered updates on striker Olivier Giroud and midfielder Aaron Ramsey, with both players ruled out of Sunday’s game.

Speaking at his news conference at Arsenal’s training ground on Friday morning, Wenger said: “Giroud will be out.

“I think Coquelin is looking much better than we expected, he had a test today but I still think he will be short for Sunday.

“Because his ligament was not damaged as we thought. He is keen to start again but we have to be cautious.

“We have plenty of games coming up but for us now we work in cycles of three, week by week we play three games, so we have done Chelsea, Basel and it’s now to show that we can finish well the week.

“Aaron Ramsey is out of the Wales squad. He should be available after the international break.”

The Gunners face PSG in their Champions League group stage opener on Tuesday evening, while L’Equipe claim that the 66-year-old was wanted by the Ligue 1 club in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

But when asked why he rejected PSG’s advances, Wenger replied: ‘Because I love where I am.

‘I know well the PSG owners but I feel always I remained loyal to Arsenal Football Club because I think it’s a club that has the qualities I love. And that’s why.
