Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Jack Wilshere is likely
to miss Arsenal’s Premier League opener on Sunday due to injury.
The England midfielder, who has been dogged by injury
problems in recent seasons, suffered a minor setback during Arsenal’s
pre-season preparations
The Arsenal boss also confirmed that, as expected,
defender Gabriel Paulista will be out of action for around six to eight weeks
after he suffered an ankle injury during the 3-2 win over Manchester City on
Sunday.
That leaves Arsenal short in defence, as Per Mertesacker
is already sidelined with a knee injury.
Speaking to Arsenal’s website in the build-up to Sunday’s game, Wenger said:
“Jack is doing well, but he will be short for Sunday. He is back in training
but will not be completely ready for Sunday.
“Gabriel has an ankle problem, and will be out for six to
eight weeks. It is a bit better than we feared at the start.”
