Mesut Ozil is on course to make history for Arsenal in
the Premier League on Sunday as he becomes the first player to wear laceless
boots in the top flight.
“My whole career I have tried to minimise the impact of
laces on my strike and ball control,” Ozil is quoted as saying by the Telegraph. “I revealed to Adidas in 2014 that in the
changing room I knot the laces over and over again and then tuck in the ends –
that way they do not interfere with my touch.
“So when they came to me last year with the laceless
boots, it was like they have created my dream product. I cannot wait to wear
them on the pitch.”
Ozil gave a glimpse into his latest pair of boots via an
Instagram post last November, where he shared a picture of the latest product
from his sponsor Adidas.
Other players set to debut the boots include Ivan Rakitic
and James RodrÃguez.
